1968年ビートルズ自ら設立したAPPLEレコードからデビューを果たし世界的ヒットで一躍人気絶頂を迎えたメリー・ホプキン。
CD1には先ずメジャー・デビュー以前の初期音源からスタート。全編ウェールズ語で歌われ彼女のルーツとなる”カンブリアン・レコーディング”を往年のファンには懐かしいかつて日本のみで発売された来日記念アルバム『愛の喜び』の曲順で再現。そしてデビューのきっかけとなったTVショウ”オポチューニティ・ノックス”で歌われたザ・バーズでお馴染みの「ターン・ターン・ターン」そしてポール・マッカートニー自ら紹介するAPPLEからの初披露となったビー・ジーズの「イン・ザ・モーニング」、アルバム未収録の最初期デモ「朝日のあたる家」、世界的ヒットを記録したデビュー・シングル「悲しき天使」はオリジナル・モノ音源で収録。68年アメリカ初上陸では”エド・サリヴァン・ショウ”はじめドノバンのバックに参加した時の貴重なライブも収録。
CD2は68年アメリカTVショウからジョニ・ミッチェル「青春の光と影」、ビートルズ「イン・マイ・ライフ」のカバーを収録。コンテスト”ソング・フォー・ヨーロッパ”のデモ音源さらに彼女自身の冠TV番組『イン・ザ・ランド・オブ…』からの音源は初登場となる貴重なもので”サウンド・オブ・ミュージック””マイ・フェア・レディ””オズの魔法使い”といったスタンダードを続々披露しているのは注目です。アルバム未収録のシングルAB両曲もアセテート音源含め時系列に収録されており60年代の活動を網羅したアンソロジー第1弾となっています。
